Overcoming Anxiety with The Power of God’s Word


Are you often caught up in your fears? Do you suffer from Anxiety? Does it tend to get a hold of you? Well believe it or not, all that can be overcome with the power of God’s word!

When we are fearful, it tends to hold us back from achieving a lot of our goals, it even can make it hard for us to get through a day. Fear is of Satan – the father of lies, it is not heavenly, for how many times did Jesus tell his disciples not to fear, the ones of little faith? God is ALL about Believing! Satan likes to bring us down, especially if we are doing a good work for Jesus. He is going to do anything he can to stop us from achieving that work or goal. Remember this verse. 1 John 4:4 which talks about, greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world! Remember Jesus lives in you.

I strongly believe that exercise and good diet, looking after ourselves and what we eat and put into our bodies is really important but I’ve found from my own personal experience, that ONLY God and knowing his Truth, believing in his promises and putting that faith into practice can truly set you free from fear. For God did say that man shall not live by bread alone, but every word that comes from the mouth of God. Also when you find that perfect peace within yourself through God, all irritation, uneasiness and fear will be gone. I’m not saying your life will be perfect but peace is far beyond anything man can understand as it says in Philippians 4:6-7. A lot of people that suffer from anxiety may also suffer from a broken heart, or have had it broken in the past, In Psalms 34:18 it says – The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit, and In Acts 9:34 it talks about a man that was made whole, And Peter said unto him, AEneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. So remember, God’s word is powerful and sharper than any two edged sword! It has the power to make us whole again and to heal the brokenhearted, to feel like ourselves again, not trying to compare ourselves to what the world thinks but to what Jesus thinks, and being who we are called to be. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 

Overcoming our fears is all about faith, and then putting that faith into practice to overcome them, it’s called facing our fears. The only way of overcoming fear is by facing it. Remember that with God ALL things are possible, God rewards us according to our faith, like Jesus talks about in Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Only perfect love casteth out all fear, which is finding that perfect love in Christ, for there is no one else perfect but him. When we do find it, and continue to praise God and be thankful for every good gift he has blessed us with, the fears will begin to vanish. When we praise God, the Enemy flees. Have you also ever thought or wondered why you become Anxious? and sometimes think that the things you worry about seem stupid but you just can’t seem to get them off your mind? I’ve had the same problems, I know it is the enemy attacking me, because I know there is really nothing to be afraid of when God is for me. In a way we can be thankful in all of this, when we do have trials in life, because it will just be drawing us closer to him, forming us more each day into the image of Christ, and remembering that he has something much better planned for us in eternity.

I also wanted to talk to you guys about good health and exercise because both I believe are so vitally important along with God’s word, especially with overcoming anxiety. Good nutrition, whole foods that contain fiber, vitamins and minerals are the best sources for relieving stress. Also the Glowing Green Smoothie, which I drink everyday, is a fantastic drink that makes me feel calm and clearheaded and boosts my vitality and energy. It is also a great detoxer and when we detox and remove toxins from our body, our body naturally becomes more alkaline, which is what contributes to reducing stress symptoms and removing weight from our bodies. When we are low on magnesium, we can also have a tendency to stress out more. There are large amounts of magnesium in seaweed, and we can also find it in avocados, bananas, nuts and seeds and dark leafy greens. If we can get more greens into our diet it can help a lot, so we are getting the vitamins and minerals our body needs to help us function and feel like ourselves. 2 other foods that improve our mood are dark chocolate, without the added sugars or milk and Almonds which contain Iron and healthy fats. Dark chocolate reduces cortisol, the stress hormone that causes anxiety symptoms and instead creates feelings of love, it also contains magnesium to relax us, and Almonds are great because of their Iron content, which when we are low on can cause brain fatigue, that contributes to both anxiety and a lack of energy.

Exercise on the other hand is also very powerful, it is a great way to relieve stress and feel relaxed. When we exercise we are also helping our brains development. It has helped me to overcome a lot of my own battles but in saying that I don’t believe exercise works alone, or diet for that matter, they both work along side each-other following after God’s word and clinging to his promises because God tells us that our body is a Temple of the Holy Ghost, so we should be honouring and nourishing our bodies not abusing them. A lot of people that suffer from Anxiety use exercise as a mood enhancer and stress reliever, but to get the most out of your workouts (The Green Smoothie helps with this) its important to live a healthier lifestyle and eat more nourishing foods. I also find when I mediate on the Word of God while I’m exercising or Listening to some Praise Music, I feel more uplifted, and being in nature and hiking, seeing all God has to offer in his creation is also really relaxing.

So this is how I categorise the stress relievers, in order of priority.

  1. God – He’s most important, in everything. Put God first.
  2. Diet – We are what we eat, so if we want to feel better, we have to start eating better.
  3. Exercise – Exercise releases endorphins which create feelings of happiness, this can help with relieving stress.

All 3 together is amazing, once you are into the word and leaning on God and his promises you might begin to have the faith for a brighter future, one where you are exercising and eating healthier whole foods. And remember to never give up, this is a battle we all struggle with in life. So it is not just necessarily our bodies we are battling against but demonic forces and evil spirits (which are the very reason our bodies can become sick), that’s why we need to be on guard Mentally, Physically and Spiritually so remember to stay in the Word, look after your Temple with good nutrition and exercise and Meditate on the Lord day and night, until eventually you will have the Power to say goodbye anxiety and start feeling more like yourself again. Think less, live more! Psalm 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?  Fear not, only Believe. :)
